Kelly Clarkson: ‘When I was really skinny, I wanted to kill myself

Kelly  Clarkson has said that she was so hopeless when she was thin that she needed to murder herself.

The vocalist was only 20 years of age when she won American Idol and was bolted into a long contract with RCA Records.

Some portion of the arrangement however was that Clarkson was compelled to remain thin — a strategy that nearly prompted her leaving the business.

“It was a very dark time for me,” Clarkson told Attitude magazine about the first few years of her career.

“I thought the only way out was quitting. I like wrecked my knees and my feet because all I would do is put in headphones and run. I was at the gym all the time.

 

 

“When I was really skinny, I wanted to kill myself. I was miserable, like inside and out, for four years of my life. But no one cared, because aesthetically you make sense.”

Clarkson’s life was aggravated even by her affection/abhor association with RCA supervisor Clive Davis. The music big shot, who assumed control RCA in 2004, wasn’t an aficionado of some of Clarkson’s tunes, specifically her 2004 hit Because of You.

“I was told that was a shitty song because it didn’t rhyme,” Clarkson told Variety.

“A group of men thought it was OK to sit around a young woman and bully her. I was told I should shut up and sing.”

At the time, Davis played Clarkson a melody called Behind These Hazel Eyes and advised the vocalist to put that tune on her collection Breakaway.

Embarrassingly, Davis didn’t understand that Clarkson had additionally composed that melody. Unbalanced …
