Veteran south Indian actor, script writer and director Vinu Chakravathy died here on Thursday after prolonged illness.

Veteran south Indian actor, script writer and director Vinu Chakravathy died here on Thursday after prolonged illness.

He was 71 and is survived by his wife, daughter and a son.

Family sources said for the last few months, the actor was critically ill and was suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure.

Acted in more than 1,000 movies in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam languages, Vinu Chakravathy was known for good supporting actor including playing antagonist roles in several films.

A commerce graduate, Vinu Chakravarthy began his acting career in 1977, after noted film producer Tirupur Mani introduced him in a small role in Kannada movie called Parasangada Gendethimma, which was subsequently remade in Tamil Language.

Vinu Chakravathy also worked with several leading actors including Sivaji Ganesan, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. His last movie was Vaayai Moodi Pesavum in 2014
