Lipstick Under My Burkha gets a release date, director says the struggle paid off

Alankrita Shrivastava is relieved that her much-talked about film, Lipstick Under My Burkha, is finally releasing on July 28. The director says she is happy that her “struggle has paid off”.

“Right now I am falling short of words to express my feelings. But yes, I am very happy that the film is releasing. We struggled to exhibit the film and the result is showing. I am hoping that the audience will be able to connect with the experiences of the characters and will enjoy watching the film,” she says.

The film, starring Konkona Sen Sharma and Ratna Pathak Shah, has been in news since January 2017, as the CBFC refused it certification for its “sexual content, abusive words and audio pornography”.

Finally, the makers approached Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT), who then recommended that the CBFC release the film with an A certificate. In fact, CBFC chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani also alleged that the makers showed different versions to the CBFC and FCAT, but the accusation was negated by Alankrita.
