Selena Gomez opens up about kidney transplant

 

Selena Gomez and Francia Raísa, the vocalist’s companion who gave a kidney to her not long ago, sat down with TODAY’s Savannah Guthrie for their first joint meeting about the system.

In a see cut posted Friday for the meeting, which pretense Monday, Gomez portrays the kidney transplant as a “critical” move.

“My kidneys were just done,” she said. “That was it and I didn’t want to ask a single person in my life. And she volunteered and did it.”

Gomez got the transplant as a major aspect of her progressing battle against lupus, an immune system ailment that frequently assaults the kidneys. The 25-year-old vocalist has openly struggled lupus for as far back as two years, sharing that she additionally experienced chemo as a component of her treatment.

 

In September, Gomez uncovered her transplant by means of Instagram, clarifying, “it was what I needed to do for my overall health.”

She shared a picture of her and Raísa in side-by-side hospital beds, revealing that her “beautiful friend” was also her donor.

“She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me,” Gomez wrote in the caption. “I am incredibly blessed.”
